I’ve always wanted to try granola, but it’s hard to find it in stores here. I haven’t seen anywhere and I’m pretty sure if there is somewhere, it’ll be a bit pricey.
So that’t why I decided to try and make it myself, because you know – homemade is always better. I was surprised how easy it is – you can put basically everything you want and it takes no effort. I decided to make two kinds of granola with different ingredients.
What you need for homemade granola – oats (obviously), any kind of seeds and nuts, dried fruit, etc. It is no secret how good oats and nuts are for the body. They provide all the important nutrients like carbs, fats, proteins and fibers. Same goes for seeds. Flax seed, chia and sesame are all packed with nutrients and antioxidants. The benefits of these foods are endless, so that is why I chose to use them all.
Almond and Fruit Granola
I decided this one to be with almonds, dried cranberries and dried papaya.
What you’ll need:
- Oats (I used 1 cup since I didn’t want to make too much)
- Chia seeds (2 tbsp)
- Sesame seeds (2 tbsp)
- Dried cranberries
- Dried papaya
- Raw almonds
- A bit of cinnamon for taste
- Honey (and a bit of brown sugar because I ran out of honey)
- Coconut oil (2-3 tbsp)
Mix all the ingredients together and bake in a preheated oven to 180C for about 10-15 minutes. Don’t forget to stir occasionally to prevent the granola from burning.
Dark Chocolate and Coconut Granola
What you’ll need:
- Oats (this time I used 2 cups)
- Flax seed (1-2 tbsp)
- Coconut flakes
- Raw walnuts
- 95g dark chocolate
- A bit of vanilla sugar for sweetness (I decided not to put sugar because of the chocolate)
- Coconut oil (3-4 tbsp)
Again, mix everything and bake for 10-15 minutes.
As you can see it is super simple to make granola! And having in mind what the ingredients are, it is packed with super foods and healthy nutrients. It makes for a great breakfast and a good start of the day. Granola is also a good option for a healthy snack. What more could you want!
